Stories of mothers
Alina
Pavlodar
Alina is one of the first moms in the Mother’s House in Pavlodar. She herself grew up in an orphanage and came to the project with her six-month-old daughter Yasmin. Her parents died when she was only 6 years old, and together with her younger brother, Alina ended up in a state institution.
After graduation, Alina began living with a classmate, a boy from the same orphanage, and soon got pregnant. However, family life did not work out. Ruslan, Yasmin’s father, did not work and drank a lot. Alina lived either at a friend’s house or in a church cottage, while her brother rented a room. She often felt hungry and at times fainted.
After being discharged from the maternity hospital, Alina lived in an apartment with her former caretaker from the orphanage. It was there that she learned about the opening of the Mother’s House in Pavlodar. Her supervisor took her there right away.
Alina and Yasmin lived at Mother’s House for a year and a half. Ruslan visited his daughter and accepted paternity. Unfortunately, however, Ruslan is no longer with them – he was killed. But because he gave his last name to Yasmin, she receives survivor benefits.
Yasmin is now 9 years old, and she is in the third grade. Alina is married and has given birth to another daughter. They both have jobs, top up their Zhilstroybank account and live in a hostel that was specially built for orphanage graduates and working youth.
Veronica, Ust-Kamenogorsk
Young mom's story
Sixteen-year-old Veronica came to Mother’s House in February 2020. Despite her young age, she was already the mother of a baby boy named Ivan.
At that time she was a tenth-grader at a school in East Kazakhstan Region. К сожалению, ни родители, ни государственные структуры не были заинтересованы в поддержке школьницы.
Specialists of the Mother’s House helped Veronica to keep going and to solve the most important problems she faced. They helped her to get a birth certificate, a lump-sum childbirth allowance and a monthly childcare allowance up to one year by opening a special bank account.
One of the main issues that needed to be addressed was the young mom’s ongoing education. No school in the city wanted to take in a student with a baby. But a solution was found. They managed to get Veronica a job at the vocational training facility, in other words, at night school.
Since Vanechka was born seven months old, he had certain health problems. And Mother’s House did its best to help. The baby underwent examinations, paid appointments with pediatric neurologists, was provided with necessary expensive medications and professional massage. All these actions yielded positive results.
Today, the young mom and Vanya are doing well. The baby is growing up. Veronica herself continues her studies in the 11th grade. She plans to enter the East Kazakhstan Humanitarian College, dreaming of learning the profession of an elementary school teacher.
Irina
Pavlodar
Irina was born into a family of disabled people. Her mom and dad were blind. When her dad was gone, it was the girl who had to take care of her mom and take care of the house. Soon Irina married and gave birth to a son. But her happiness was not long. Her man had a second family on the side. She could not forgive his betrayal and left, changing her place of residence and phone number.
Once in a cafe, where the girl worked as a barista, a customer first gave Irina flowers and after work asked to walk her home.
The relationship developed rapidly, and soon the young man moved to her rented apartment, became friends with her son. It seemed that fate had finally smiled to her, but it was another test for Irina.
The man quickly turned from a fairy tale hero into an alphonse tyrant. He was often jealous and also hit her often. Just in a few months, Irina’s life turned into a nightmare from which only escape was possible. Later she found out that she was pregnant. She doubted for a long time and even in the maternity hospital planned to give up the baby, but when she saw the glorious baby girl on her chest, all the bad things were forgotten.
Her mother could not accept her daughter with two children and after discharge Irina went to “Mother’s House”, where she quickly found a mutual understanding with similar moms, unaccepted by their loved ones and society.
With the support of psychologists, coordinator and nurses, the girl recovered and regained her self-confidence.
